Violence

Are you the type of person that gravitates to violence or shy away?

A few nights ago, one of our mutual friend (actually he is more Derek's friend) felt bad for missing my bday so he invited us over for dinner at his new condo. During dinner, we talked about relationships. He was dating (or is still) this girl that really knows how to push his buttons. I am not sure with all the details but he was arrested for domestic violence. Instead of jail time, he had to attend Anger management class.

I have known him for a few years and seen how he plays volleyball. He does have anger issues.
He is a very good volleyball player, very competitive and gives every games his all. However if he thinks his partner is not doing the same, there is a lot of cursing and yelling on the court. I have seen him kick volleyballs across courts. I have seen him tackle his friends on the sand. It doesn't take that much to set him off. I have seen his partners walk off the court in the middle of the game because they can't put up with his smack talking anymore.

So he explains to me the class is more about being in touch with the cause of the anger.
An example: if someone trips you and you land on your ass, people are around you are laughing. You are not angry because you fell, you are angry because you are humiliated in front of people.
He went on to explain that usually he is not a violent guy, but if there is violence around, he becomes violent. It doesn't have to be physical either.
With his x girlfriend, when she is not in a good mood, she slams things around his house. He is tired from a long day of working and to hear such violence around him, it set him off.

It got me thinking about myself. I gravitate to violence.
Example: my marriage to David hence all the fighting

However with Derek, he knows how to calm things down with me.
I have only gone crazy on Derek once (reminisce of my days with David) and I realize that I can't behave that way anymore. Once Derek realize that I am not a crazy psycho girl, he is able to work with me to build our relationship.

I can get maybe 10 good swings before my shoulder dies on me. I just feel like there is a block of brick tying my shoulder down. I can't lift my shoulder up pass my head to swing for the life of me.
vball weekend

We had our 3rd NCVA tournament this past weekend. I have to say it was one of my worse NCVA experience. Not only did we drop from AA silver to A Gold, I played so badly. My mental game wasn't there and my shoulder is still not at its full swinging potential.
ever since my shoulder has been bothering me, I am having a hard time reaching and snapping. I have been dropping my shoulder and swinging at my shoulder instead. It doesn't hurt but it gets tired easily and I feel like I am swinging with a block of brink on my shoulder.
I need to start strengthening it and lifting.
I dont think I can play my best game when I dont have a full night sleep. I don't know what it is but usually I only get a few hours of sleep before a day of a volleyball. Next tournament I am going to take a sleep aid before I head to bed so I can actually sleep.

To make matters worse, our team has an attendance problem. I don't understand when we have 9 girls on the roaster, before our first game, we only had 5 girls on the team there. It was disappointing and bad for team morale. Instead of warming up, we were scrambling everywhere, calling the girls that are suppose to show up and stealing a player from another team.
Fara showed up late. Our setter could not make it because of work. Its so hard to play when your setter is not there! Our right side did not show up either. Ren forgot her shoes and had to go back to get them, which made her late. Then during our last pool match, Fara landed wrong and went down. She was out. We had to carry her out of the facility.

well we all sux ass that day.

*sigh*

So far this 2007 is not what I have been expecting. Not too much has happen

Derek and I are still under a lot of stress. We are trying very hard not to take it out on each other and remain cool. However there are days when I am at my very wit ends.
I have to admit I am spoiled in some aspect of my life. I am so use to have a car and having the freedom to go where ever I want. Well my corolla broke down about 3 weeks ago. At first I thought it was a dead battery because the thing would not start. It took us a week to get it replaced and it was running fine. A few days later, the car died again. Derek thinks its the alternator (since it can't be the battery) and it needs to be replaced. Unfortunately we have to wait for a day that Derek has off to get it fixed. So in the meantime, I have been driving back and forth driving Derek to and from work. It can be frustrating at times. I am not the early bird so waking up at 7am to drive him puts me in a grouchy mood.

I am still unhappy working for Scott even though we buried the hatchit. My fault for procastinating on finding a normal job.

A friend of mine is going thru a very bad breakup. She called me on Friday and I could barely understand her because she was balling her eyes out. She wanted to kill herself and it took me a few hours to calm her down. I feel so heartbroken for her. There are so much you can say to make someone feel better about themselves.

On a brighter note, I have been cooking at home.

I forgot how tiring and mentally exhausting coaching can be. It has been 3 years since I last coach a club team. At the time it was fun and exciting. I am not sure if I want to go back to coaching but walking into a tournament with 100 teams playing brings back a lot of memories.

I helped my friend Connie coach this past weekend. She is an asst coach for a 16-2 team and the head coach was out of town. She was left on her own to coach her girls at the California kickoff. She needed some help and has been very nervous coaching by herself. I offered my services (as a good friend) and my experiences to her.

The good things I remember
1) seeing the team play well
2) parents being supportive
3) seeing different teams and coaches

the bad things
1) the long days - early morning to late evening
2) when the team is not playing well
3) mentally exhausting day

its taking me a few days to recover from the weekend. I am still mentally and physically tired.

my back

Ever since I played in the grass tournament and then NCVA the same weekend, my back has been achy.
I have been taking it easy (well kind of, since the following week was playoffs for IVL) and resting it hoping that things will get better. It hasn't.
I found out last year that my spine curved to the right. Hence all the muscle tension is on my left side. Last year I use to wake up in so much pain I was in tears. It pinched in the lower back. I spent a month of therapy to correct my spine and felt better. Now its on my mid-upper back. My whole left side of my body is tense and achy. My left shoulder is starting to make a "clicking" noise too. I am not in tears yet but I better fix it before it gets worse. Since I am a left handed hitter, it affects my game.

I also better start lifting weights and working out so that I won't hurt myself

It has been awhile since I last updated..

First thoughts: Its FREAKEN COLD right now! Its not just cold, its Frosty cold.
Second thoughts: whoa its been a year already.

Thanksgiving: Derek and I went down to Fresno for 48 hours to spend with his friends and family. It has been more than a year since I last saw them and I wasn't sure how they were going to treat me. My fear was put to rest as soon as I walked through the door and they gave me a hug. I was happy to see my cat (katsu) as well too.

NCVA: We signed up for our AA Gold Qualifier and QUALIFIED!!! It was my first time I ever played on a team that went beyond BB Gold (you are only as strong as your team). I have to admit that my game has improved greatly since I have been playing a lot of grass doubles over the summer and learn some valuable lessons from seasoned players.

Mending: Slowly mending a broken friendship. I decided that I miss my friend more than holding on to my grudge.

Derek: everything is perfect between us. I have never felt more loved.
